When we were well getting older, mom would drive us to the lake to see and stay with her mom at Adam's Lake. Well she on those back roads would let ones drive the car, started of course with my big brother, they my older sister, then me she wanted to do this. I said NO I don't want to drive. So with me never doing this with mom, that tossed me to my Daddy. I did mention on another post the type girl I was, into playing all kinds of everything..didn't mention other city sport tournements was in though like tennis. So basically involved and did about anything, unlike my sisters.
At the time it was new subdivision, so not much north of us.. Daddy made me go drive we went north got on a road to curved and turned into St Joe road, with us having the right of way as in no stop signs or anything on that curve. A road though did come to it I think as showed him map.. Mathue or something I don;t even care tried to look up again and google maps block me. We got to that curve and I saw car sitting there am sure said AAAHHH and put my hands over my face and eyes, as in crash. Daddy reached over and turned the wheel and we did not hit her..and made me continue driving. Well next up was a stoplight at St Joe Center road we had to make a left turn at to get back home. The light was green so I didn't slow down and made a dangerous turn.. Then we did get back home again. Yes he did give me instruction and made comments. Well I told Matthew but that was not the weird part.,
The weird part is that it was not one of our family cars. It was a rental car. Like who does that? Well I did say, I am sure Daddy was shocked that this daughter not afraid of anything played everything refused to drive??? I just said maybe he took that to God..and if crash it won't be in one of his vehicles. So an interesting driving lesson...I did have permit, so am sure insurance would have paid maybe. Weird it was to me.
So did say him, well Daddy slow us down.. get me 3 speed on column car...got Cheri 3 or 4 speed on floor think..of all us girls only one to get automatic was Con.. funny thing on that think maybe Larry came from, but used to call her lead foot...cause drive fast.
That not the weird part, the weird part is we purchased our vehicles had to have money and pay ins upped on family to even drive. Well my little sis dating David, and him want to sell me his white car.. forget want to say lamans maybe sky lark (Bob had)?? can't remember his and Daddy say no...no let me purchase that vehicle...it was stick shit too as recall. So that a bit weird too.. same price think. Him got Cheri a corvair, white...mine blue ford custom think called.
I think..Chuck's first car was stick shift.. Grand Sport. Our family vehicles at time think Daddy on maybe second Thunderbird not sure had yellow one first convertible... traded in used that new vehicle put manure in..so sold it...well Daddy got special something put in car make odor disappear he did. Then went from that to hard top dark navy blue one. Us girls used both we would go wash and fill with him company gas card Texaco think. (but then we had books of matches in bathrooms strike blow out odor gone...them free at places)
Mom had new Buick station wagon with sky windows around ..tinted they were.. now Chuck used that one paper delivery..I would go with him...that another story..we did crash...7 car pile up in that one. that a different adventure..might write about. Cause Chuck did start with driving mom's push button Rambler, green shade it was.
To get an idea of my mom 1967..can't remember which movie it was checked both came out same year.. we think girls went..would do that sometimes...anyway get up walk out of theater we did. It was either The Graduate or Valley of the Dolls... can't remember which one.
