Adams Lake in Indiana

Adam's Lake and Eve Lake in Lagrange County, Indiana

Adam's Lake is where my mother's mom had a cottage.  This is where we were taken most the time as mom did not work so would drive us up there.  We were pretty young.  Sometimes grandma would take just a couple of us with her...if we went with her, she always stopped at a fruit stand and purchased a bushel of fruit for us snacks.

That house was 2 story, main entrance was second story, so you had to go down steps to enter living area.  To go up to top floor you had to turn left and climb a few more steps.  Dormitory room upstairs with many beds.  On farthest side starting lake front was double bed, then double bed (grandma and grandpa bed) then by smaller window facing back, was a single bed.  Other side of room starting lake front, was Uncle Steve's (mom's half brother) single bed with built extended length as he was tall.  Moving toward backyard 2 more double beds.  Under those beds stored mattresses for grandchildren if mom's brothers and sister came.  Mom always slept same side her mother but up front lake bed.  There was like a triple want to say maybe double dresser between Mom's bed and her mothers, with a big mirror on it.  Remember grandma having a giant jar of noxema there, that was put on us if we got sun burnt.

Lake front windows upstairs were huge ceiling to floor...had to lift hang handle to ceiling for open.  Grandpa had built many many bird houses that were hanging in them trees for wrens only, small hole so other birds could not get at them.  So wrens singing was constant there, that is what you heard.

https://www.bird-sounds.net/house-wren/   This link has several of their calls.. singing we heard mostly probably because of their houses built  haha

The lower area kitchen dining area, had as I remember 4 or 5 Oak round table and chair sets in it.  In the front one corner was grandma's rocking chair and next to her was grandpa's with I remember a gold spit tune  as he was a tobacco chewer.  Then 2 Oak table chair sets.  Us children were bathed at the sink area just remember her white with red edges metal? bowls pans she used even for dishes as was big sink so one for rinse and one for wash.

There were concrete steps and sidewalk with door for entrance to lower level...I remember a bathroom in the laundry area but no shower do I remember  grandpa used to bathe in the lake using Ivory soap as it floated.  Washed his head and everything with it.

There was a dock with grandpa's row boat for fishing, he fished all the time, mostly caught as I remember blue gill and perch.  He had his own worm bed, and a minnow net to catch minnows for fishing.  The net required 2 people to go along the shore line, we would do that for him once trained and old enough.

There was a concrete step down into shallow end right by start of dock nice firm beach sand.  We were not permitted in the water till the sun was on the step, that was close to 10 a.m.  On that lake fisherman had the lake to themselves till 10 a.m. as I recall then the speed boats could come out with skiing and things like that.  Grandpa had cain poles for us children to use to fish off the docks and we could walk down 3 doors to the Zimmerman's dock to fish, they were not there much had lots of tall weed plant life and I believe we were related to them, grandma was.

Now I might be wrong about this, but from what I remember if us girls were able to go to the lake with grandma, it was more Cheri and I that would go...Connie was not the outdoorsy type as much stayed more with mom.  She of course always was there when mom took us.

Out in the yard area by the lake, grandpa had built an outdoor rock grill cooking area.  Down by the water was a huge flag pole and they had a huge American flag.  There was also a weeping willow tree down there.

That is the basic layout I remember of the place.

Sleeping Arrangements 4 6

Sleeping Arrangements For Six Children

The homes we lived in were really 3 bedroom homes, now the one next to grandpa and grandma Ehrman not sure think the laundry remained in the basement in that house. I only remember 2 bedrooms upstairs will have to ask big brother. It was fast really when new babies came so like 15 months or so that youngest was moved to a bed. For us girls I remember the most obviously. Always 2 double beds in a bedroom we had. Cheryl always sleeping with me only. I never at that young remember the part living in the basement. I think I was in a crib down there. I remember once upstairs done that basement being like winter play room..our tricycles even down there to ride, and of course rainy days be there to play too...besides our bedroom. So more outside type play in basement I remember.

Even in Anderson it was a three bedroom house, for 8 of us. Connie got her own room when we moved to Red Oak Dr...yet left Cheryl and I in one bed, a room big enough for 2 twin beds, and got us new furniture. French provencial rings bell haver to look. Yep this is it..we had no canopy and no tall bedposts that I remember, but the gold on yes nothing fancy on the front..but a double bed, the little desk with no shelves, and a double dresser you can see part of. An off white but white with the gold on those shaped edges on the corners. Same type drawer handles even.

The weird part, not even mom and dad ever got a new bedroom suit, no one in our family ever got one. Aunt Elba even to make mom's furniture new recover it for her. So again family help in things. Aunt Elba when I got married helped part time in a school kitchen and got the large size receipts even for my wedding haha them all making food.

You think about children and heck want to sleep here there everywhere. Never do I remember Cheryl sleeping with Con or me after Cheryl with me. Even at the lake Adams Lake make us sleep together. lots of beds. I think about this and think weird you remember. Especially cause them not ones to do for ones and not the others, so why? Could have just got new mattresses. I of course got Con's room when she married, so had it my senior year. Con a very young school starter made before cut off date.. me having to wait a year cause late in year.

Smoking and Grandma

Well now my mother's mother's children all of them that I can think not one of them smoked way back that I can remember at all. I think though Esther's daddy Thompson's I think did smoke a pipe sometimes? Not sure of that might need to ask an older sibling. Well that memory came back to me even years ago searched scriptures I did as to what my grandma said to me regarding smoking. Now you need to know she was remarried so the only grandpa I know was grandpa Wright and he not only chewed tobacco with a spit-tune but did once in a while smoke a pipe rare to see, see more chewing that smoking ever with him. Well Grandma said to me about smoking: "IF GOD WANTED YOU TO SMOKE HE WOULD HAVE PUT A CHIMNEY ON YOUR HEAD" LOL Well you have to know grandma, she would also say as all of us slept same dormitory room upstairs and grandpa would fart a normal bodily function sometimes... and she would say loud we not hear that fart... "pppeeeewww horsy put your tail down." So we all knew Grandpa must have had what Bob Jacobs used to refer to as "egg farts" he thought those the worst smellin. He also felt the strongest smellin piss was when we were eating tons cause of garden asparagus eating.

Now reason I bring up grandma and smoking is that of all them children she had it was her daughters that married smokers. Uncle Bob Gale was a Denver cop always that man see had one talked with it even in his lips did. My daddy no do that one, now I know daddy's dad smoked a pipe love that when he smoked cherry tobacco smell I did. Daddy even sometimes did do a pipe rare but did. So of course even typin this smoke is in scriptures and what pop head and did search was that smokin flax thingy. When you even think about what Grandma said about the chimney, well isn't my mouth and nose on head? And God wanted smoking incense in the temple...where is the temple?? I just thought well Father must like the smell of tobacco. He did not have them do any smoke stuff with them butchered critters them did...well I take that back some think hair or something maybe burnt outside.

Now thinking back then, of course daddy did go through a time felt was a bad thing needed to quit, I was thinking though guess who he was following then?? That mason Kenneth Copeland. David Ells then made it sound to me as when talked to daddy, like well if you smoke that happens...word...that man didn't know and I did that daddy burnt his lungs with chlorine pool powder chemicals having that pool in Zephyrhills as I did. Well Bob and I having a pool AZ knew about that power crap used it got ride of it we did.. did get hard for the skimmer box but shock pool no powder would use bad shit it was..we purchased liquid gallons to shock pool.

Because of all that I am sure daddy mixed about it...anyway all of us smoked and most have fireplaces in FL, now Con and Larry picked that up but them stayed within Paul churches most all else came out. Timing also when Con and Larry hit, financially also did become only ones know of did... elders of a church...now to do that must sign up be a member. Thankful I was that J refused the baptist church wanted him to become. So have fun searchin smoke in scriptures I did.. but then I am one that if Father wants my breath he can have it, it is His.

Also a funny thing about the marrying of Roberts... not only did my mother's mother's daughters both marry Roberts, but Bob Jacobs grandmother Big G Mary Carper tied to one of the Saalfranks, she had 4 daughters, 1 no seed.. the ones with seed all 3 others married Roberts. Weird science or God?
